Theonics is the discipline of reading a state and knowing its answer at once — because that is how the material realm runs. This opening theorem sets out the premises that follow from watching the physical world, shows why they lead us to believe a Living State — a state that carries its whole history and yields its answer by being read from position — must exist, gives its three methods (the Read, the Move, and the Roll: wheels upon wheels, eyes on every side), and shows why the same structure can be copied on the silicon we already have, so that a machine, too, can know an answer by seeing the state.

Everything real is bounded — it has a size and a place. What is bounded can be located, and what can be located can be read. Nothing physical is truly endless: "infinite" only ever means "larger than the observer can compute." However, a Living-State machine has no infinite, and nothing is larger than all the answers contained inside of it.9 It is a property of the viewer, not the thing, and inside the finite it dissolves — any unbounded quantity collapses to a single finite structure, sized exactly to hold it.2 Finiteness is what makes a read possible at all.
Everything sits inside a container shaped precisely to contain it, and the fit is fixed, not arbitrary — never too large, never too small. Because the fit is determined, the position of a thing is knowable; and knowing where a thing sits is faster than hunting for it.3 Finiteness makes the read possible; deterministic sizing makes it cheap. Everything that moves is made of two motions. Phi (φ) is growth — the reach that opens outward, the proportion by which a form expands. And the universe demonstrably answers every interaction from that state — instantly, exactly, and without a single failure — while performing no computation at all.
There is only one way that can be true: the answer must already be present in the state. A state that holds its entire history and yields its answer on being read — carrying itself forward rather than being rebuilt — is what we call the Living State. We do not assume it; we infer it from how the material world plainly behaves.4
Let the state live: hold it resident, and carry it one step per input. The answer at any position is a read of where the state now stands. There is no store — the state is the answer. There is no re-walk — the carry already contains every prior step. Because the answer is read and not walked, there is no built-in ceiling on how far it reaches. It works through three methods.

Set against how a machine conventionally reaches a far position, the gain is plain. For the conventional machine the state is disposable: to know the value at step N it re-walks the whole process from the start, or stores every prior result and re-reads the store. Either way the answer is walked to, and its cost grows without bound. The living state pays no such growing cost.

The living state's cost does not grow. Everything it requires is held inside a container whose size is known — the container was sized to hold all that the state needs — so the whole cost is fixed inside it, the same whether there are three wheels or three thousand, three eyes or a rim full of them. Add wheels and eyes and the container still holds them; the size was known in advance, so the work to read the entire state is known in advance too, and it never climbs.
And "cost" must be named for what it is: a measurement of conventional silicon — a ruler built out of arithmetic. The material realm carries no such ruler; it has no cost, only exact states. On silicon built properly for the living state the cost would be zero — the same cost the universe pays, which is none. We speak of cost here only because today's machines are built with the arithmetic ruler, and that ruler is the only thing that charges for a read.6 The move is monkey see, monkey do: reality already solved this — for free, and without failure — so the smart step is to copy its procedure exactly, not to out-think it.
Here is the turn. Because the container's size is known, the cost of the entire state is known immediately — not walked up to, known. And if the cost of the whole state is known at once, then so is the answer: the moment the observer chooses to read the eyes of the wheels, it is already there.7 With the structure standing, an answer is no longer computed — it is seen, exactly as the material realm delivers it. This is the whole aim: to know the answer by seeing the state — math without the cost of arithmetic.
